NEW PRODUCTS
Deer Repellant: Scram
Scram, a new product for Mountain Pine customers
is to control deer browsing.
Scram is a granular product that is used as a
perimeter barrier against deer browsing in the garden. It works
on the defense
mechanisms of the deer and keeps them out of the garden completely – not
just away from certain plants.
Scram has no unpleasant odor and does not wash
away under normal rains or regular irrigation. It is easily
applied, lasts 6 to 8 weeks and even works through 18" of
snow.
Mountain Pine Tested
Many landscape customers were asked to trial Scram in their gardens
in 2004. In many severely infested areas these customers saw excellent results.
Mountain Pine feels that with Scram on the perimeter
of the garden and Repellex – our ‘old
faithful’ deer product– sprayed on the plants, even
the most severe deer browsing can be kept under control allowing
for beautiful gardens once again.
Remember, the key to successfully deterring deer from the garden
is to start in March as new growth outside of your garden
is readily available for deer to eat. Deer are very strong creatures
of habit – deter them from eating in your yard early. Use
any product at a stronger concentration in March and April rather
than as maintenance in the summer.

CAT ALERT
Our cats, Buttons and George enjoy keeping the
sales area clear of voles and chipmunks, unfortunately they seem
to think that
sneaking off for a ride with our customers is even more fun.
If you have left your windows or sunroof open, please check
your car for these fuzzy stowaways. Buttons is the black and
white
cat and George is the gray. Both are very friendly, they just
like to play hooky when they should be working.

Healthy Soil . . . Healthy Plants
Why do you have such a
hard time with the soil in your garden? Here’s the dirty
truth: There simply is very little “soil”.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had perfect soil that
didn’t need anything added to it to grow perfect plants.
Very few of us are that lucky.
Depending on where you live, most
of our area has clay as the main soil ingredient, making drainage
poor, and nutrients are unavailable
to plants because of the lack of organic matter. But, you can
always improve on what nature has given you. The key to
successful gardening is “healthy soil.” This basic
truth applies to all plants. Quite simply, when you feed the soil
the proper nutrients, you let the soil feed the plants. So how
do you “feed” the
soil? Add organic matter such
as compost, sand and peat moss. These soil
amendments will improve your drainage and adds nutrients to your
soil. Come in. We’ll show you how to really prepare your
soil for spring.
